I've finished burning my holiday photos.
　　对话 　　Tony: I've just finished burning my holiday photos.
　　Gordon: What did you do that for? Weren't they any good?
　　Tony: No, you don't understand, I meant I've just finished burning them on to CD. I can view them on my computer now.
　　Gordon: I didn't know you could do that.
　　Tony: Yes, it's dead easy. Come round with some photos of your own and I'll show you how to do it.
　　Gordon: Great! Thanks a lot. I'm on my way.
　　东尼：我刚把假期拍的照片都烧了。
　　戈登：为什么烧了？拍得不好吗？
　　东尼：不是，你误会了。我是说，刚把照片都烧录到光盘上，现在可在计算机上看了。
　　戈登：我不知道可以这样做。
　　东尼：可以，而且非常容易。你去拿一些自己的照片，再来找我，我示范给你看。
　　戈登：好啊，谢谢，我现在就去。 　　I have finished burning my photos on to CD这一句，on to可以改为onto吗？从前，onto被视为on to的错误写法。Concise Oxford Dictionary（简明牛津字典）一九九○年才收录onto，但仍注明这个字‘有争议’(disputed)。今天，一般意见是onto指‘到……之上’，可和on to通用，例如：The cat jumped onto/on to the roof（猫儿跳到屋顶上）。
　　留意onto和on to有时未必同义。请比较以下两句：(1) He walked onto the platform。(2) He walked on to the platform。第一句是说‘他走到月台上’，第二句on to合起来读，也是说‘他走到月台上’，但假如稍为分开来读，则是说‘他继续走，到了月台’：on有‘继续’的意思，例如He talked on（他继续说）、He worked on（他继续工作）等。阅读时，看上下文，当可知道on to应怎样解释。
　　假如on to并非解作‘到……之上’，就不可写作onto，例如：(1) Please send the letter on to him（请把信转寄给他）。(2) He went on to criticize me（跟着，他开始批评我）。
　　说把影像、音乐或其它数据烧录到光盘上，自然用on to或onto都可以，例如：With a CD burner, you can burn your favorite songs onto/on to a CD（有光盘烧录器，就可以把你喜欢的歌曲烧录到光盘上）。Burning a CD or DVD has never been easier即‘烧录光盘或数字多用途光盘，从来没有像今天那么容易’。(
