How does she get away with wearing such a get-up?
对 话
Penny: Look at Petra?
Martha: What an outfit! Her hat looks like the Eiffel Tower.
Penny: And that's the skimpiest dress I've ever seen.
Martha: How does she get away with wearing such a get-up?
Penny: Sheer self-confidence and a fabulous figure.
Martha: Oh I wish...
(1) I saw him in a hiking outfit, looking very tired(我见他穿着一身远足服装,样子十分疲倦)。(2) She wore an extraordinary get-up to the party(她穿着一套古怪服装出席派对)。
Get-up这个名词,当然是出自动词词组get (somebody/oneself) up。 (1) He got himself up as Batman for the fancy dress ball(他打扮成蝙蝠侠的样子,参加化装舞会)。(2) She was got up in a figure-hugging dress(她穿着一套非常贴身且曲线毕露的衣服)。
How does she get away with wearing such a get-up? While the other tenderers all followed the established procedures, he did not, and got away with it(其它投标者都依照既定程序,他却没有,也不见被取消资格)。美丽的女人,无论穿多么难看的服装,都可以get away with it。
