英译汉翻译技巧5|介词的处理

英语表意通过句子结构，英语介词使用灵活、频繁，常以介词短语替代动词短语。

汉语表意通过内容铺陈，多用动词。

1.直译

The internet didn’t start the fire, but it’s undeniable that it has fostered a sour and fragmented global polity — an atmosphere of pervasive mistrust, corroding institutions and a collective retreat into the comforting bosom of confirmation bias.

互联网并不是始作俑者，但不可否认的是，它助长了一种乖戾的、支离破碎的全球政体——一种充斥着普遍的不信任、腐败的政府，以及集体退却到确认偏误的舒适怀抱的氛围。

2.转译

（1）英语中常用介词来表达动作意义

Time Warner will pay TCI 360 million for Southern Satellite company.

时代华纳愿付TCI 三亿六千万美元购买南方卫星这家公司。

They are for the suggestion, but we are against.

他们赞成这建议，但是我们反对。

（2）在作目的状语或原因状语的介词短语中，介词常被转译为动词。

I paid fifty yuanfor an old bicycle.

我花了五十元买了一辆旧自行车。

（3）介词短语作补足语时，介词或介词短语常转译为动词。

The headmaster took the foreign guests about the campus.

校长带着外宾参观校园。

（4）有些表示范围或程度的介词，如：through, throughout, over, about可以转换为形容词或副词。

The sun shines over the earth.

阳光普照大地。

3.增译

补充辅助性动词，使意思更完整。

In the event ofwar, the side which has a high degree of mobility will get a decided advantage.

如果发生战争，有机动性的一方，会获得决定性的优势。

4.反译

（1）表示超过某一限度的能力、感情、品质时，多反译。

It was beyond his power to sign such a contract.

他无权签订这样一项合同。

（2）but, except, besides等表示“除去，除外”，有时反译。

That little bridge is anything but safe.

那小桥一点也不安全。

5.分译

The secret letter had been all of the time just out of reach.

密信一直在那儿，可就是没有人能够得手。

He shook his head and his eyes were wide, then narrowed in indigation.

他摇了摇头，眼睛睁得溜圆，接着又眯成一条线，脸上露出愤怒的神色。

6.不译

（1）表示时间和地点的英语介词，译成汉语出现在句首，大都不译。

On August 16,1983, they started for the South to seek the fortune.

1983年8月16日，他们动身去南方寻求生路。

Rumors had already spread along the streets and lanes.

流言蜚语传遍了大街小巷。

（2）表示手段、方式的by有时可不译

He grasped John by the collar.

他一把抓住约翰的衣领。

7.介词of 的翻译

（1）处理为动宾结构

Our response has been bogged down less by a lack of ideas or invention than by a failure to align our actions as groups, either within nations or as a world community.

我们的应对陷入了僵局，与其说是因为缺少想法或发明，不如说是因为我们无法作为一个团体，无论是国家还是国际社会，采取一致的行动。

（2）处理为主谓词组

Global failures of cooperation are, of course, nothing new;

当然，全球合作失败并不是什么新鲜事；

（3）用指示代词

the clever students of our class.

我们班那些聪明的学生。

（4）不译（of介词短语翻译时避免使用“的”，多数情况下“的”可省略不译）

He called this the “tragedy of the commons,” and in the following years he was among a group of intellectuals who advocated tough measures to avert the coming “population bomb,” among them curtailing the “freedom to breed.”

他称这种现象为“公地悲剧”，在接下来的几年里，他成为了主张采取强硬措施以避免即将到来的“人口炸弹”的知识分子群体的一员，这些措施就包括限制“繁殖自由”。

8.固定搭配式介词

on account of 由于

with regard to 关于

as for 至于

in view of 考虑到，由于

owing to//due to 由于，归功于
