What do you fancy?
Sian: Let's eat out tonight, I don't feel like cooking.
Vincent: Well why not? What do you fancy?
Sian: I think Japanese would make a nice change.
Vincent: Fine. How about that new place just off the market square?
Sian: Good idea. I'll go and freshen up first.
Vincent: OK, in the meantime I'll phone to book a table.
到外面吃饭,英文叫eat out或dine out;在家里吃,则叫eat in或dine in,例如:(1) I cannot afford to dine/eat out a lot(我没钱经常到外面吃饭)。(2) She goes out with a different suitor almost every night, and seldom dines/eats in(她几乎每晚都和一个不同的追求者外出,很少在家吃饭)。
What do you fancy? (1) Mary took a fancy to the house/The house took Mary's fancy(玛丽爱上了那栋房子/那栋房子获得玛丽喜爱)。(2) I fancy a coffee. Would you like one as well?(我想喝一杯咖啡。 I don't feel like cooking和I fancy a coffee这两句,改为I don't fancy cooking和I feel like a coffee都可以。留意Japanese (food) would make a nice change一语。 (1) Let's have Japanese food for a change(我们吃日本料理,换换口味吧)。(2) Just for a change, I went to live in the country for a while(为了改变一下生活方式,我到乡下去住了一会儿)。 I went to the bathroom to freshen (myself) up(我去浴室梳洗一番,消除倦意)。
