今天看一段新闻：

　　Ikea founder overtakes Gates as world's richest man STOCKHOLM （Reuters） — Ingvar Kamprad, the Swede who founded furniture retail chain Ikea, has overtaken Microsoft's Bill Gates as the world's richest man, Swedish TV news reported on Sunday.

　　Ingvar这个人建立了Ikea公司，这是个家具公司，funiture retail chain，我们知道chain是链条，也就是指现在流行的连锁店，chain reaction是连锁反应，food chains是食物链，那么什么是retail呢？如果没有学过，那就猜猜。家具retail连锁店，应该是零售，那么，批发呢？wholesale.这些都是常见的词汇，即使不知道，根据上下文一般也能估摸出来。继续看下去，这个人overtake，不仅是take而且是overtake，拿多了，应该是取代的意思，取代微软的盖茨成为世界首富。后面是报道的媒体。

　　Citing next week's edition of the Swedish business weekly Veckans Affarer, public service SVT2 television said Kamprad, 77, has a personal fortune of 400 billion crowns （$53 billion）.

　　cite这个词一定要学会，现在很多人写论文随手超，根本不给出引文citation，而且，也不说自己是cite，这个叫plagiarism，剽窃。呵呵，古代颇有雅意的“窃书不算偷”恐怕被现代人“误解”，或者用个时髦的词：误读了。于是，抄袭成了“雅”的具体手段，带来生存的机会，更带来名利双收。扯远了，这个地方是援引某某报道的意思，SVT2说这个人Kamprad个人财富在4000亿crowns，这个应该是Sweden的货币名称，折合美圆530亿。哇！天文数字。

　　盖茨的资产被put在470亿，这个put应该是说被placed的意思，被定在某个水平，来源是富不死杂志的最新排名。要注意这些词汇的用法，according to, the lastest list, the world's rich, in Forbes magazine.

　　Kamprad, known for frugal habits such as flying economy class, lives in Switzerland and no longer takes part in the daily running of Ikea, but has kept ownership of the company with more than 180 stores in over 30 countries in the family.

　　Kamprad，后面是一个分词短语，修饰这个人，具体说明他如何如何，known for是因什么出名，后面的frugal让人望而却步了，不知道是什么意思，别查词典，我们来猜猜。frugal习惯，什么习惯呢？such as flying economy class，这个economy class是经济舱的意思，也就是说他坐飞机只坐经济舱，要知道他是世界首富啊！他有好多frugal习惯，比如坐经济舱，看来这个frugal跟节俭、朴素、小气之类的意思有关，也有可能跟怪异有关。搜索一下google,有一个叫Frugal Simplicity的网站，其主旨是：

　　Frugal tips, articles, and ideas to get more for your dollar, save money, and have more for less.

　　Frugal Simplicity …… it's not just about saving money, it's a way of life!

　　看来，应该是节俭的意思。

　　Kamprad住在另外一个国家，而且不再参与具体的公司管理，等等等。

　　SVT2 said the dollar's slide against other currencies is the main reason why Kamprad has now overtaken Gates.

　　slide是下滑的意思，这个地方应该是美圆汇率下滑，正是这个原因，让Kamprad取代盖茨成为世界首富。

　　最后，再看一下frugal的英文解释：

　　Practicing or marked by economy, as in the expenditure of money or the use of material resources

　　是节俭吧？再看：

　　Costing little; inexpensive: a frugal lunch.

　　frugal，你会用了吗？
